Hertswood Academy – a great place for the next step of your teaching career
Hertswood Academy is a thriving and happy learning-focused community. We are one of the largest secondary academies in Hertfordshire and graded as “good” school by Ofsted. We are proud to be…
- The most improved school in Hertfordshire at GCSE
- In the top 10 most improved schools in England at GCSE
Aiming to provide a world-class educational environment for our young people and the wider community
We provide an engaging learning environment with an innovative curriculum, personalised care and support and a broad enrichment programme for all students. Our stimulating range of extracurricular activities supports wider learning and we develop students’ creativity and independence so that they are able to flourish in the rapidly changing world in which we live.
Our own theatre and state-of-the-art sports facilities are a testament to the creative and active commitment we have to nurture fully rounded individuals. We have a clear expectation for our students to work hard, behave well and develop as confident individuals, responsible citizens and successful 21st century independent learners.
Community and individual well-being are at the heart of what the Academy stands for. We are committed that all members of our community aim high and achieve excellence in being the best that they can be.
Ethos of supporting and developing our staff
As a school we pride ourselves on our programme of continual professional development for all staff. Each year a number of our teachers move on to promotion both within Hertswood and other schools.
Hertswood has a comprehensive programme of support for Newly Qualified Teachers, Graduate Trainees and teachers re-entering the profession.
Transforming for the future – building a cutting edge facility
We are proud and excited about the transformation of the Hertswood Academy into a cutting edge new facility in Borehamwood. The scheme will be in-keeping with the Academy’s rapid progress in achievement, and our ambition to create an oustanding learning environment.
- The new Academy will consolidate the existing upper and lower sites into a single, state-of-the-art educational and communal facility situated on Cowley Hill. It will ensure students, teachers and the wider community have an exceptional environment to develop and learn in, with access to the best technology available.
- The building work, scheduled for completion in autumn 2019, now has planning consent and the detailed design of the Academy is underway. In addition to modern well equipped classrooms, there will be a double height library, expansive open learning spaces, a new restaurant and extensive community facilities including a new theatre and sports centre.
